My First New Tech Seattle Event
This week I had the pleasure of going to my first New Tech Seattle event focusing on four presentations from female leaders in the Seattle tech community. I really didn't know what I was in for going into it. I've been a member of the Meetup group for a few months now, but the dates have never lined up for me to make it out. The only thing I knew is that it drew big numbers and I wanted new tech friends.
I ended up having a really great time and meeting some really cool people. I particularly enjoyed a presentation from Mona Akmal who had some great wisdom not only about how she leads her team, but about how to stay true to her self as leader, retaining her femininity. She's loves feminine things and she sees many women feel like they have to give that up in order to succeed in leadership positions, which she is here to say is false. She's an engaging and hilarious speaker, and I hope to catch more of her talks.
